I was born and raised in France; my first foray in merchandising was at The Conran Shop in 1992 when it opened its first store in Paris. That eventually led me to move to New York to launch The Conran Shop in the US a few years later. During those 19 years working with Terence Conran, I learnt about the power of merchandising and how good design can have an impact on people’s lives.
I always say that I am fortunate to have one of the best jobs in the world! I work for one of the most prestigious cultural institutions, alongside very talented and inspiring individuals. My role is to develop the vision and strategy for MoMA Design Store and source objects that would inspire and bring joy to people. As glamorous as it may sound, it is a demanding job but we are all driven by a common passion about products and sharing our discoveries with our customers.
It is all about people! After 26 years living in New York City I am always fascinated by the scale of the creative community. I am impressed by the number of independent businesses, small design studios, workshops, markers, industrial facilities, etc. We have been collaborating with the MFA Product of Design Program at the School of Visual Art for over 10 years and this has been a great platform to work with emerging designers and discover new talents.
I have been on the NYCxDESIGN Steering Committee for over 10 years. I wish I was able to devote more time to this wonderful group of driven professionals that strive towards making New York a leading design destination. There has been lots of work done over the past few years and I have had the opportunity to meet really passionate people who care deeply about the city and the design community.
I have plenty! I am mesmerized by the Soft Serve 3D printed lamp which evokes a swirly soft-serve ice cream. It is designed by Swedish designer Lucas Lind and 3D-printed from recycled rPLA plastic. The result is a spectacular and intriguing light with a very unique personality.
