It actually started when I was pretty young, maybe early high school. Growing up I remember making mixtape CDs for my friends' birthdays and we would listen to them in their car or portable cd player. These mixtapes were often filled with songs that reminded me of them, songs that we both enjoyed or songs that I knew they would love. After getting my first restaurant job, I became intrigued by how the music played in a restaurant or during an event can shape the atmosphere. After working in the industry for the last 12 years, my love for playlist curation for events or really anything has only grown.
When I'm creating a playlist for an event I usually try to get the theme if they have one or a word they would use to describe the mood that they are looking to capture. I then start going through my current listens and see if any of those align with the event and space. Once I find one song that fits, it's pretty easy to fill the playlist around that. After I have all the songs added I then arrange them in an order that feels intentional. I'm someone that thinks the order that the songs are played is important, so I organize them in my preferred order and then listen a few times through to make sure the transitions are good.

Since moving here in 2021, I’ve managed to build my own creative community within my circle of friends, and I’m constantly inspired by them and their creative pursuits. Growing up in the South, I always imagined that New York would be a place where people could be completely themselves, and that’s exactly what I’ve found. It is very inspiring to be surrounded by people who pursue their dreams so boldly. So, my favorite part is getting to see people pursue their dreams without hesitation.
Honestly, so many different ways! As someone that watches a decent amount of movies, I am constantly looking up a movie soundtrack post movie to see what I liked, and want to hear again. I love that most streaming platforms will show similar artists, or suggest songs based on what you listen to. I am also subscribed to a few music newsletters, and I'm in a group chat that shares what they are currently listening to.

Not super recent, but I made a playlist for Create Dinners Cin Cin Zine, and I am definitely gravitating towards that one as it's getting colder outside. I made four playlists for hosting, and this one is called "For Winter".
