Meet Marianna, an art director, designer, and illustrator whose colorful work has graced the LA Times, Taco Bell Ads, and the walls of our kitchen(!!!) A New Yorker by way of Italy, Marianna leaves the city this week, and what better way to say ciao than catching up.

How did your career as a designer & illustrator begin?
After a semester studying photography in college, I realized that all my hours spent saving images and "cool fonts" from Tumblr and the likes as a teenager was called "graphic design" and I could make a living out of it. I therefore decided to transfer and switch majors to Visual Communication Design and after 3.5 years studying in Ohio I moved to Brooklyn to begin my career doing a bit of everything from branding to websites, and everything in between. As my 9-5 started focusing more and more on UX and strategy I had to find another way to feel creatively satisfied and that's when I began illustrating food. I decided to take upon the 100 days challenge and the rest is history.

What's your favorite part about the New York creative community and what will you miss the most?
I appreciate how big it is, how you can always meet new people and learn something new every time. The pandemic has already affected how we don't hang out in person anymore, but I'll definitely miss the opportunity to catch a talk and grab dinner nearby afterwards with old and new friends.

What's inspiring you right now?
I am not sure I've been feeling very inspired lately, however looking at old illustrated cookbooks, jello cakes and furniture DIYs has kept me busy and entertained. I think all the cookbooks that came out in the past couple of weeks have planted a seed in my brain to one day illustrate someone's cookbook, so maybe that counts as being inspired!
